Dry spells to dominate as Kenya Met issues weather forecast for Tuesday, September 1
By Dan Kauna, August 31, 2026Kenyans planning their daily activities for Tuesday, September 1 can expect mostly dry conditions across the country, though a few areas will experience light rainfall and strong gusts.
According to the latest 24-hour update issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry.
Light showers and sunny spells across regions
Despite the widespread dry weather, the weatherman indicates that brief precipitation will still reach select regions.
The official daily forecast notes that “Rainfall expected in some parts of Busia, Bungoma, Nyeri, Embu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Wajir and Nairobi”.
In the capital, Nairobi residents will wake up to cloudy conditions with sunny intervals, following a night with “a chance of light showers expected over few places”.
Temperatures in Nairobi will range between a minimum of 13°C and a maximum of 26°C. Central highlands counties including Nyeri, Murang’a, and Kiambu will experience morning “Light rains over few places, Sunny intervals” with daytime highs of 24°C.
Nyandarua County will record the lowest temperature nationwide, dipping to 8°C at night before rising to 18°C during the day.
Along the Coast, morning skies in Kwale and Lamu will bring “Light showers expected over few places, sunny intervals” before clearing up in the afternoon.
Mombasa will see morning sunny intervals alongside a brief chance of light rain, with temperatures averaging between 23°C and 29°C.
Taita Taveta will see afternoon light showers, while western regions including Busia and Bungoma carry “a chance of light showers expected over few places” in the afternoon.
Strong winds and high temperatures in northern areas
Residents in northern and eastern Kenya should prepare for windy conditions and high temperatures.
The department warns that “Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui Counties”.
Turkana County will record the highest temperature in the nation at 36°C, closely followed by Mandera at 35°C, as well as Wajir and Garissa at 34°C. Meanwhile, daylight hours will vary across major urban centres.
Sunrise in Mombasa is expected at 6:20 am with sunset at 6:22 pm, while Nairobi will see the sun rise at 6:30 am and set at 6:35 pm.
Nakuru will witness sunrise at 6:32 am and sunset at 6:38 pm, Eldoret at 6:35 am and 6:42 pm, and Kisumu will see sunrise at 6:37 am with sunset at 6:44 pm.
