DCI confirms capture of 6 linked to Mtwapa robbery incident
By David Nthua, February 7, 2026The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of six individuals linked to a robbery and Burglary incident in Mtwapa.
In a late-night statement on X on Friday, February 6, 2026, the DCI confirmed that the six were found in their hideouts in Vipingo following the incident committed on January 28, 2026.
“Acting on solid intelligence, the officers moved swiftly to a hideout in Vipingo, where the suspects were believed to have gone underground after their criminal escapades,” DCI stated.
Items recovered
According to DCI, the search of the premises led to the recovery of mobile phones, multiple national identity cards belonging to different individuals, crude weapons, and a cash bail receipt linked to an ongoing attempted robbery with violence case.

This trail resulted in the arrest of three more persons of interest at a separate hideout.
“Under interrogation, the trio led detectives to additional accomplices,” the DCI said.
“A search of the second hideout uncovered 18 large rolls of cannabis sativa, a weighing scale, and Ksh7,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds of crime,” DCI added.

All six persons of interest were escorted to Mtwapa Police Station for processing and later arraigned in court.
“Detectives were granted 14-day custodial orders to wrap up investigations,” the DCI said.
Security assurance
The operation comes amid heightened police action in coastal counties, following recent assurances by the National Police Service regarding gang-related activities in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya.
“Crime of any nature will be confronted firmly and lawfully,” the NPS said.
The authorities emphasised the importance of community collaboration and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, law enforcement officers, or via toll-free numbers.
