Chaos was witnessed on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Nyabisasie High School in Bobasi, Kisii County, after students and teachers engaged in violent stone-throwing clashes over a leadership dispute that left the school in turmoil.

Stone-throwing clashes

According to video clips seen by K24Digital, the school compound quickly turned into a battleground as students, some with their faces covered using school sweaters, hurled stones towards teachers near classrooms and the administration block.

The clips also show teachers picking up stones and throwing them back as they attempted to defend themselves, while other staff stood at a distance watching the confrontation unfold.

The unrest is reported to have begun after students rejected a newly appointed principal who had been transferred from Mochorwa High School. Attempts to calm the learners failed, with the protest escalating into hours of violent confrontations.

According to the clips, some students stormed one of the school’s dormitories and set it ablaze in broad daylight. Thick smoke could be seen billowing into the sky as flames engulfed part of the building.

The students later forced open the school’s main gate and walked out, insisting they did not want the new principal.

School closed

Following the incident, Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir, accompanied by senior security officials, visited the school to assess the situation and oversee efforts to restore calm.
