Boniface Mwangi condoles with US family who lost loved ones in tragic accident in Kenya

Activist Boniface Mwangi has joined other Kenyans online to condole the US-based couple of Wambui Ndirangu and her husband.

Referencing a social media post that told the story of how the family lost three of their children, Mwangi, on Thursday, January 22, 2022, described the incident as heartbreaking.

Emmanuel Nyori DeLeon (13), young Kairu (6), and Njeri (16) lost their lives in a tragic road accident while on a Christmas visit to Kenya on January 4, 2026.

In his post, Boniface Mwangi attributed these deaths to poor governance.

He went ahead and asked the middle class to rise and save their country or risk extinction as fools.

“This is heartbreaking. Young lives lost in the most tragic way. We must agree that Kenya has reached a point where even money cannot save someone from bad governance. The middle class must wake up: we fix Kenya, or we perish together like fools.”

The incident has highlighted the stark reality of the safety gap between the private security many families can afford and the public hazards they cannot avoid. Whether through poorly maintained road networks or the slow arrival of overstretched emergency services, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder that private wealth offers little protection against public decay.

This sentiment is being echoed across social media platforms, where Kenyans are sharing their own near-misses and calling for a complete overhaul of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Community in the US

The impact of this loss has reached far beyond Kenyan borders, deeply affecting the community where the children lived and studied in the United States. In a tribute to the young lives cut short, the school community expressed their profound grief and remembered the students for the light they brought to their classrooms.

brother,”On January 4, while on a dream family trip to Kenya, the family was involved in a tragic accident. We are heartbroken to share that Emmanuel, one of our 8th graders at Hoover Middle School, and his younger brother Kairo, passed away at the scene,” said Hoover Middle School on their Facebook page.
