460 litres of suspected chang’aa seized in Uasin Gishu

Police have seized 460 litres of suspected Chang’aa in a targeted operation in the Langas area of Uasin Gishu County.

According to the statement shared by the National Police Service, the raid, conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026, by officers from Langas Police Station, uncovered the illicit alcohol stored in a rented room being used as a storage facility.

“In a sustained effort to eliminate the production and distribution of illicit alcohol, police officers from Langas Police Station in Uasin Gishu County conducted a targeted operation in the Langas area today, January 16, 2026,” the NPS statement reads.

“During the raid, officers discovered a rented room being used as a storage facility, where they seized 460 litres of the suspected Chang’aa.”

The NPS further stated that investigations are ongoing as they work to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal trade and bring them to justice.

In addition, they vowed to continue and intensify similar operations across the country to curb the production and distribution of illicit alcohol.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal trade, with the aim of bringing them to justice,” NPS added.

“The National Police Service will continue to sustain and intensify similar operations across the country.”

More changáa

This comes after four people were arrested in Luanda after police discovered them with over 10 litres of illegal brew commonly known as Chang’aa.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the operation was carried out by officers from the Luanda Police Station while on routine patrol.

During the operation, the individuals were found in possession of the illicit brew and immediately taken into custody. The authorities also secured the confiscated Chang’aa at the police station for further processing.

The arrested individuals are now undergoing processing and are expected to be arraigned in court. The police have emphasised that this action is part of a broader effort to eliminate illicit brews and narcotic substances from the community.

The National Police Service (NPS) said it remains committed to ensuring public safety and discouraging the production and consumption of illegal alcohol, which poses serious health risks to the public.

“Yesterday, officers from Luanda Police Station on patrol conducted a successful operation against illicit brews and narcotics within the Luanda area and arrested four individuals for possession of over 10 litres of illicit brew known as ‘Changaa’,” NPS stated.

“The suspects were taken to the station and placed in custody for processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured in the same facility. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to eradicating illicit brews and narcotic drugs within the community.”
