28 guns recovered in Laikipia as Murkomen issues last warning
By Wanjira Wachira, February 19, 202628 guns have been recovered in the ongoing disarmament operation in Mukogondo Forest aimed at wiping out bandits in Isiolo and Laikipia counties.
This was confirmed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen during his tour of Nanyuki town on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
“So far, we have recovered 28 guns and are still working towards recovering more. We shall not stop until all the guns are recovered and peace is restored along the borders of Laikipia and Isiolo,” Murkomen said.

Mukogondo forest security operation
Speaking during a security meeting in Nanyuki town on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Murkomen said there are teargas canisters in the wrong hands.
He noted that some teargas used recently has not been coming from the government.
He added that investigations are ongoing to ensure no police officer is working with civilians to illegally handle teargas.
“The Inspector General is investigating issues of teargas. Just like we have guns and bullets in the wrong hands, the same way we have teargas canisters in the wrong hands. We are investigating these issues because most of the teargas used recently in political rallies is not from the government,” he said.

Murkomen added that it is suspected some police officers may be working with civilians and handing them canisters illegally. He said some canisters used by civilians are those left on the streets after police operations.
Illegal teargas investigations
Murkomen also condemned the killing of a teacher in Isiolo County yesterday during the ongoing operation.
He swore that the operation would not relent, no matter how long it takes. He also urged Kenyans to always be willing to offer intel of any wrongdoing so that necessary actions can be taken.
