Range Rover unveils first electric SUV: What buyers get for Ksh18.1M price tag
By William Muthama, September 3, 2026Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled the Range Rover Electric, the luxury brand’s first fully battery-electric Range Rover, marking a major shift for one of the world’s best-known luxury SUV names.
Unveiled on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, the electric SUV carries a US starting price of about $140,550, equivalent to approximately Ksh18.1 million.
So, after splashing out Ksh18.1 million, what exactly does a buyer get, and is it worth the hefty price tag?
Performance meets electric power
The Range Rover Electric has been designed to preserve the familiar character of the Range Rover while replacing its traditional combustion engine with an all-electric powertrain.
The SUV uses two electric motors, each producing up to 260kW, delivering as much as 550 horsepower and 850Nm of torque.
That power enables the Range Rover Electric to accelerate from zero to 60mph in about 4.3 seconds, giving it performance credentials comparable to some high-performance luxury SUVs
The instant torque from the electric motors should also make the vehicle particularly responsive, whether accelerating on the highway or negotiating difficult terrain.
Up to 372 miles of range
The SUV is powered by a 118.5kWh usable NMC battery and uses an 800-volt electrical architecture.
Range Rover claims up to 372 miles of WLTP range, while the US EPA estimate is around 333 miles.
The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 350kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 22 minutes under suitable conditions.
It also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing the SUV to supply power to external equipment.
The battery comes with an eight-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty.
It can still go off-road
Despite being electric, the Range Rover Electric remains a serious off-road machine.
It offers up to 900mm of wading capability, Terrain Response technology and air suspension. It can also tow up to 2,500kg.
This means buyers are not sacrificing the capability traditionally associated with the Range Rover name in exchange for electrification.
Luxury Inside
The electric powertrain may be new, but the interior continues the luxury-focused approach associated with the Range Rover brand.
The dashboard features a 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment screen, complemented by a 13.7-inch digital driver display.
Passengers can also benefit from a premium Meridian sound system, while the SUV offers 20-way adjustable seats for enhanced comfort.
Range Rover has equipped the vehicle with Cabin Air Purification Pro, designed to help improve the quality of air inside the cabin.
Buyers who prefer not to have traditional leather can also select a leather-free interior.
The result is an interior that focuses heavily on comfort, technology and premium materials rather than making the vehicle feel radically different simply because it is electric.
