Reasons why every man should own more than 8 towels

There are two kinds of men. Those with a neat stack of fresh towels in the cupboard, and those still relying on the same faithful towel that has been through hundreds of showers without complaint. It has survived years of showers, weekend football matches, gym sessions, road trips and even the occasional emergency mop after a drink spills on the floor.
While it may seem harmless, using the same towel over and over is one of those habits that is easy to ignore until it starts affecting your hygiene. A few extra towels can make a bigger difference than you might think, keeping you cleaner, your skin healthier and your bathroom much fresher.
You need different towels for different jobs
Not every towel should serve the same purpose. A bath towel should remain exactly that, a bath towel. It should not suddenly become a gym towel, a beach towel, a travel towel or something you throw over the car seat after getting caught in the rain.
Having several towels makes it easier to separate their uses. You can keep two or three large bath towels for daily showers, smaller towels for your face, another set for the gym and one or two reserved for guests. This reduces the chances of transferring dirt, sweat and bacteria from one place to another.
It also helps your bath towel last longer. Instead of using one towel for everything, each towel has a specific job and lasts much longer.
Fresh towels are kinder to your skin
A towel may look clean, but every use leaves behind tiny amounts of sweat, body oil and dead skin. Because towels stay damp for hours after use, they create the perfect environment for bacteria and fungi to multiply, especially if they are left crumpled on the floor or hanging in a poorly ventilated bathroom.
Using the same towel for too many days can contribute to body odour, skin irritation and even worsen acne if you dry your face with it.
Owning more towels means you can swap them out every few days without worrying that you will run out before laundry day. Your skin stays cleaner, your bathroom smells fresher and your towel actually feels soft instead of stiff and overused.
Laundry day becomes much less stressful
Life gets busy. Between work, errands, football, and family commitments, washing towels every other day is not always realistic.
That is where having a good towel collection comes in handy.
With eight or more towels, you always have clean ones available even if you miss laundry day. There is no panic after a morning shower because your only towel is still wet from yesterday or sitting in the washing machine waiting to dry.
It also gives towels enough time to dry properly between washes, reducing unpleasant damp smells that develop when moisture gets trapped in the fabric.
Think of it as having enough socks or underwear. You would not want to own only one pair, so why treat towels differently?
Your guests will thank you
Nothing says “welcome” quite like handing a guest a fresh, fluffy towel.
Whether it is your parents visiting for the weekend, your siblings stopping by or friends spending the night after a party, spare towels are one of those things people appreciate but rarely mention.
Sharing your personal towel with visitors is uncomfortable for everyone involved and is not hygienic either. Clean guest towels help prevent the spread of bacteria, fungi and skin infections while making your home feel more organised.
Even if you live alone, having dedicated guest towels shows you have thought about the little details that make people feel comfortable.
5. Towels wear out, and replacements are not always immediate
Even high-quality towels eventually lose their softness and absorbency. Daily washing, sunlight and regular use slowly break down the fibres. If you only own one or two towels, they wear out much faster because they never get a chance to rest.
Rotating between several towels spreads the wear evenly, helping each one last longer. In the long run, this can actually save you money because you will not need to replace towels as often.
A larger towel collection also comes in handy during unexpected situations. Maybe your washing machine breaks down, you spill something on a towel or you need extra towels after cleaning up a mess. Having extras means you are prepared instead of improvising with an old T-shirt.
