Omboko Milemba warns parents against enrolling Grade 9 learners in village polytechnics
By Enock Amukhale, February 25, 2026Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has cautioned parents against enrolling grade nine students in the village polytechnics.
Omboko, while addressing parents on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, while issuing Emuhaya NG-CDF bursaries to the needy students, said the move will sabotage 100 per cent grade nine transition to grade 10 in senior secondary schools.
He said the Ministry of Education policy requires that all Grade Nine students transition to senior secondary schools, and from there they can join institutions of higher learning like polytechnics, colleges, and universities.
He cautioned that enrolling Grade Nine students prematurely in the polytechnics will not help them advance their careers to higher levels.
He said it will be good if a student joins a higher learning institution while armed with a grade twelve certificate.

“I want to throw caution to parents in Emuhaya and in the country that they should not prematurely enroll their grade nine students to village polytechnics. Let our grade nine students join grade 10 in senior secondary schools to receive certificates,” cautioned Omboko.
Omboko said in his Emuhaya constituency he has offered to support all Grade Nine students to proceed to grade 10 in senior secondary schools.
He said we have students who are fully sponsored by NG-CDF, and some are partially supported to pay their school fees.
Omboko asked Principals not to send any grade 10 students home for school fees.
He said NG-CDF is ready to pay school fees for all needy students.
“I am appealing to our Principals in the senior Secondary schools not to chase students from school because of school fees especially the grade 10 freshers. I will do my best to ensure NG-CDF pays school fees for our bright but needy students,” said Omboko.
Omboko said education is a long-lasting investment, and he wants to fight poverty among families in Emuhaya by supporting more students in every household to access quality education.
Former South African President, the late Nelson Mandela, used to say education is a great weapon to fight poverty. I want to apply the same in Emuhaya. We must fight poverty by educating our children,” said Omboko.

Omboko issued Ksh58 million NG-CDF cheque to Principals to support bright students in senior secondary schools.
Principals who were present during the event thanked the MP for supporting the education of poor students in the area.
The Principals, led by Perus Ambole of St. Peter’s Itumbu Secondary school and Joel Omutsani of Esibila Secondary school, said the NG-CDF bursary fund will help them run their schools.
They revealed that they admitted many grade 10 students, and most were from poor families.
Omutsani revealed that Esibila Secondary admitted 320 grade 10 students, the highest number since the establishment of the school.
