Mosiria comes to aid of mother stuck in hospital over lack of ID and unpaid medical bill
By Valerian Khakayi, August 25, 2026Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has come to the aid of a mother who has been unable to leave hospital after giving birth due to an outstanding medical bill and lack of identification documents.
Mosiria on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, said that he encountered two children strolling around Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) after leaving work and approached them to find out why they were not in school.
According to him, one of the children told him that their mother was in hospital after giving birth.
He said he later learnt that the mother had been unable to leave the hospital because she did not have an identification document or health insurance and had an outstanding hospital bill.
“Today, after leaving the office, I met these two children strolling around the CBD. I approached them and asked why they were not in school. One of them told me that their mother was in hospital after giving birth,” Mosiria said.
“Sadly, their mother had not been able to leave the hospital because she did not have an ID or health insurance, and she had an outstanding hospital bill.”
Action taken
Mosiria said he immediately contacted the hospital management and requested that the mother be assisted through the Social Work Department, including consideration of having the bill waived.
“I immediately spoke with the hospital management and requested that they assist her through the Social Work Department and consider waiving the bill,” Mosiria said.
He expressed gratitude after the hospital management agreed to assist the mother.
“I am grateful that the hospital management accepted and agreed to help her,” he said.
Unpaid school fees
Mosiria also revealed that one of the children told him that her mother had been unable to raise the Ksh2,500 required for her school fees because she had been in hospital.
The situation had left the children out of school as their mother remained hospitalised following childbirth.
“The young girl also told me that her mother had not been able to raise the KSh 2,500 needed for her school fees because she had been in hospital,” Mosiria added.
Mosiria shared the case as an appeal for well-wishers who may be willing to support the family.
