MP Eric Wamumbi reveals what Gachagua paid for at his wedding

Maina, revealing that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua catered for the food during the ceremony.
Speaking during a candid interview with media personality Oga Obinna on Monday, July 20, 2026, Wamumbi explained that different leaders supported various aspects of the wedding.
He noted that Gachagua committed to paying for the food, while President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also made separate financial contributions.
“Kuna pesa na kuna chakula. Riggy G alisema atatoa ya chakula, na mimi nikasema, ya kununua, msichana, nisisaidiwe. Msichana ni wangu; raisi alitoa pesa na Kindiki akanisaidia pande ingine,” Wamumbi said.
Dowry contribution
The MP also dismissed claims that he was helped to pay the dowry, saying he personally took responsibility for the bride price because he wanted to handle that part of the marriage process himself.
“Ile pesa sikusaidiwa ni ya kununua msichana, kuna watu wanapiga kelele ati ‘tulikusaidia kununua msichana’, but I was very clear ile tunapeleka kwa kina msichana wacha nijipange,” he stated.
Wedding guests and cost
When asked about the cost of the wedding, Wamumbi declined to reveal the exact amount, instead joking that marrying Betty Maina was not cheap.
“The wedding was quite something because the girl I was marrying was not cheap,” Wamumbi disclosed.
Reflecting on the ceremony, the legislator described it as one of the biggest blessings in his life, saying he never imagined that both the president and the deputy president would attend and even dance at his wedding.
“Some things that have happened to me are just by grace of God; having the president and deputy president attend your wedding and dance with you is something I just say is by grace of God,” he stated.
According to Wamumbi, his humble upbringing made the experience even more remarkable.
“Considering where I came from and how I was raised, I never thought that I would host a president and deputy president at my wedding, but it just happened by the grace of God. God lifts those who humble themselves,” he noted.
How they met
The MP also shared how his love story with Betty Maina began, revealing that they met before either of them joined Parliament.
Additionally, the vocal lawmaker said they first became close friends before their relationship blossomed into marriage.
“We met before we joined parliament; we became good friends, and it developed into what we have today,” Wamumbi said.
