According to a study published by the National Library of Medicine by Layla Esposito, pet ownership is linked to lower stress levels, reduced blood pressure, and increased physical activity.
Dog owners, for example, are more likely to meet daily exercise recommendations through regular walks, which supports heart health and helps maintain a healthy weight.
“Interacting with pets can reduce stress-related hormones and promote relaxation, which may contribute to improved cardiovascular outcomes,” the study highlighted.
Even simple daily interactions like playing with a cat, brushing a dog, or spending a few quiet minutes with a pet can lift mood, ease feelings of loneliness, and strengthen social connections.
