Glam and colour: How leaders dressed up for Njuguna Waiguru’s wedding

The ceremony, held in Naivasha, Nakuru County, brought together President William Ruto, governors, politicians and other guests, with the dress code reflecting the warm colours and cultural feel of the occasion.
Waiguru sets the tone
Governor Anne Waiguru stood out in a festive. She was at her son’s wedding ceremony wearing an elegant olive-green outfit. Her top featured a patterned fabric with a wide boat neckline and long, puffy sleeves. She paired it with a long, flowing dark green pleated maxi skirt.
Ruto opts for brown
President William Ruto attended the ceremony in a brown matching suit paired with a white fedora hat. He completed the look with a walking stick as he joined other leaders in celebrating the couple.
Governor Gladys Wanga also attended the ceremony and congratulated the newlyweds, describing it as a special occasion for her colleague, Governor Waiguru.
“I was honoured to witness Njuguna Waiguru, the son of my colleague Governor Anne Waiguru, tie the knot with his fiancée, Joanne Rodriguez. May their marriage bring them joy and happiness for a lifetime!” Wanga said.
The Homa Bay Governor wore a long purple gown featuring see-through lace sleeves, a patterned waist section and a flowing pleated skirt that reached the floor.
Leaders embrace colour
Former Attorney General and politician Veronica Maina was also among those who celebrated the couple.
Maina shared her congratulations on Facebook, writing, “Harusi tunayo! Congratulations to the newest couple in town, Ian & Joanne, Governor Anne Waiguru’s son and daughter-in-law. May God beautify their marriage and favour them with wonderful blessings!”
She wore an elegant emerald green dress with cold-shoulder sleeves and accessorised the look with a pearl necklace.
Nyandarua Women Representative Faith Wairimu Gitau also attended the wedding in a patterned olive-green outfit, adding another earthy shade to the colourful gathering.
A classic look for the couple
The bride and groom kept their wedding looks traditional and elegant. The groom wore a cream-coloured long coat over a matching vest and trousers, paired with a white shirt and bow tie.
Joanne wore a white strapless wedding gown with a full ruffled skirt and a long veil. The couple’s outfits complemented the venue, where cream and white were mixed with bright red floral arches and decorations.
With the leaders opting for a mix of tailored suits, African-inspired outfits and colourful dresses, the wedding offered a blend of formal style and cultural fashion.
Beyond the ceremony itself, the gathering showed how political and public figures brought their individual style to a family celebration centred on the union of Njuguna and Joanne.
