Battery or camera? Divisive phone debate that often leaves Kenyans confused

By , January 27, 2026

Between a phone with good camera and that with 7000mah, which one will you choose?

To many Kenyans, it is easier and very direct to elect a corrupt politician than be able to state clearly what they want when it comes to good battery and ultra modern camera.

Ask this question in a matatu and you will start a debate before you reach your stage. One person will say battery is everything.

Another will say camera matters more. Nobody wants to listen. Everyone thinks they are right.

Those who vote for battery are very serious people. They are tired. They wake up early. They leave the house before sunrise and return when it is dark.

Their phone must survive the whole day without begging for power. To them, a phone should not be a daily problem.

It should not embarrass you when you need to send money, call home or check directions.

A big battery means peace of mind. No carrying power banks. No standing next to sockets in town. No panic.

Battery lovers also argue that a phone is first a tool. It should work. A nice photo cannot help you if the phone is dead.

They would rather take a normal photo and still have 40 per cent power at night than take a very sharp photo and start searching for a charger at 3:00 pm.

On the other side are the camera people. These ones live in the moment. They believe life should be captured clearly.

For them, a phone is a memory keeper. If the photo is blurry, the moment is lost. They want clear selfies, sharp videos and good pictures even at night.

Some camera lovers use their phones to make money. They sell online. They create content. They market themselves.

A good camera is not luxury to them. It is work equipment. They can forgive poor battery because they know where to charge. What they cannot forgive is bad quality.

The funny thing is that many Kenyans want both, but money forces a choice. So we argue. We laugh. We insult each other’s choices. Meanwhile, everyone is just trying to survive their own lifestyle.

Where you live also matters. If you are always near electricity, battery stress is small. If you are always moving, battery becomes king. If your life is social media, camera wins. If your life is calls, messages and work, battery carries the day.

So the debate continues. Battery or camera. There is no final answer. The best phone is not the most talked about one. It is the one that fits your daily life.

In short, choose a phone that understands you. Not one that will make you complain every day.
