Mosiria rescues elderly woman who lived on Nairobi streets for 2 years

Nairobi County Citizen Engagement and Customer Care Department boss Geoffrey Mosiria has moved Kenyans after rescuing an elderly woman who has been living in the streets for two years.

Through his Facebook account on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Mosiria stated that he had been touched by the incident.

He also said that seeing the woman in such a vulnerable state has pushed him to act without hesitation.

Mosiria explained that the woman has been surviving purely through the kindness of Nairobi residents who have been giving her food and checking on her well-being.

He shared how the reality of her life along the cold streets of the city has weighed heavily on him.

He has also explained the pain of watching a grandmother figure struggle every day in unsafe conditions.

His message has sparked emotion online, with many Kenyans online admitting that the story has reminded them of the quiet suffering that often goes unnoticed around them.

Mosiria added that he received a distress call from a concerned resident after unknown men attempted to harm the elderly woman.

He said the report has made the situation urgent and has reminded him of the responsibility he carries as a public officer.

“As a government officer, our duty is to protect every city resident,” he wrote, calling the rescue a necessary act of compassion.

Nairobi Cabinet reshuffle

The touching rescue has come only hours after major changes in Nairobi’s leadership structure.

The former Environment Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, was moved from the Environment docket to head the Citizen Engagement and Customer Service department following a reshuffle by Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In a notice released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Sakaja said the changes take effect immediately.

“In accordance with Section 45(5) of the County Government Act 2012. The following County Chief Officers have been reassigned as stated below,” Sakaja stated.

Taking over the Environment docket is Chief Officer Hibrahim Otieno, who previously headed the Medical Facilities department.

Mosiria, however, left behind a strong track record. He has been credited with cracking down on illegal dumping, shutting down unauthorised waste sites and revoking licenses of non-compliant service providers.

He repeatedly urged Nairobians to keep the city clean, stressing that public hygiene is everyone’s responsibility.

He also pushed for better waste collection systems, more recycling, and modern tracking systems for waste enterprises.

His efforts extended to noise reduction, especially within the CBD, where he encouraged matatu operators to reduce loud music and disorder.
