By , November 20, 2025

Edwin Juma Wanyama, popularly known by his stage name I Am Chosee, is quickly becoming one of Kenya’s fastest-rising and most exciting comedians.

Hailing from Bungoma County, he has won over audiences across the country with his Luhya-accented skits and hilarious portrayals of village life. His comedy feels familiar, especially for Kenyans who grew up in rural settings and can relate to the everyday scenarios he brings to life.

Nature and style of skits

The nature and style of Chosee’s skits make them instantly relatable as well as entertaining.

It also mirrors the realities of everyday village life, from the strict yet loving mother to the mischievous teenager navigating chores, friendships, and puppy love, capturing what life is like for many Kenyans raised in rural areas.

His style, on the other hand, brings these situations to life with a unique Luhya accent, expressive acting, and comic timing that turns simple moments into hilarious scenes.

In many of his viral skits, he teams up with a fellow creator, Mary Nyonje, who plays his mother.

Interestingly, Mary Nyonje is his real aunt, the sister of his biological mother, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to their on-screen chemistry. Their comic timing and natural rapport have made these videos fan favourites, with viewers praising how accurately they reflect real village households.

He also collaborated with other renowned creators like Jacky Vike, aka Awija, Diana Luvanda, and Kenan Osyaju, better known as Khoja Afrique, among others, joining forces to create humorous, exaggerated moments inspired by rural life, youthful mischief, and community dynamics.

Chosee’s skits often explore the funny side of growing up, including his recurring role as a naughty teenager who always finds himself in trouble.

Hilarious clips

Most of Chosee’s content has found a huge audience on TikTok, where his videos regularly go viral and attract thousands of comments from Kenyans who say his storytelling reminds them of home.

His use of the Luhya accent, combined with familiar village settings and well-crafted characters, has helped him stand out in the growing world of digital comedy.

With each new video, he continues to establish himself as one of Kenya’s next big names in online comedy, proving that simple, relatable village moments can turn into pure entertainment gold.

His journey into comedy

Speaking during a past interview with Oga Obinna, the viral sensation disclosed that his journey into content creation began when he started working with Khoja Afrique. Initially, he served as his cameraman and director, helping to create and build content between 2023 and 2024.

Chosee went on to say that in 2025, he came up with the idea of creating content that people could relate to and began producing his own village-life skits, quickly resonating with audiences.

Nilianza kuact na mama February 2025, lakini nilianza kuact na Khoja Afrique, nilikuwa cameraman wake director kwanza, alikuwa analeta content na ibuild since 2023, 2024,” Chosee disclosed.

Sasa nilianza kuact na Khoja September 2024, then nika come up na idea ya kufanya content yenye mtu anaweza relate.”

While explaining the origin of his stage name, he revealed that it comes from his childhood nickname, Jose, but mispronounced by his mother as Chosee, which eventually became the name people know him by.

Jose ni nickname nilipewa nikiwa mtoto mdogo lakini mama yangu alikuwa ananiita Chosee ndio ika influence watu,” he revealed.
