Church leaders have called on respect for fathers since they are the head of the family.
While speaking during a church service at Our Lady of Assumption to celebrate Father’s Day, Father Joseph Isaiah Njiru said some fathers have suffered humiliation in their families.
Father Njiru, however, urged men to respect themselves and know that they are the head of families and should not be engaged in behaviours that lower their fatherhood.
“A father is the leader of the family and that should be respected and supported,” he said.
He urged fathers to take up responsibility for their families and bring the family together.
Njiru urged the families to stay put and always employ proper mechanisms to solve family disputes when they crop up.
His sentiments were echoed by Alex Kimotho, the secretary to the church, who stated that men should not ignore the church.
“Men should go to church because the church is not for women only. As the leader and head of family you should show your young children the way,” he said.
Pancras Ndegwa, the chairman of the family department in the church, faulted men who always get home late terming it as bad behaviour.
“When you get home late what are you showing to your young children, you should ask yourself if what you are doing can be copied by your children,” he advised.
Men at the church were today treated to celebrations which every mass ending with a cake-cutting session to celebrate the fathers.
Last year a section of elders in Embu County decried increased cases of men being beaten by their wives and children.
