The year 2024 came with its fair share of relationship dramas.

While some announced breakups for clout, others parted ways for real.

Here’s a rundown of the celebrity breakups that tore the hearts of fans and netizens in 2024. At the time of publishing this article, none of them had announced a change of mind.

Eve Mungai and Director Trevor

This was the first major celebrity split of 2024, and it came with a dramatic public reveal of relationship dramas that had been kept under wraps for a year.

In February 2024, Director Trevor revealed that his relationship with YouTuber Eve Mungai had ended the previous year, despite their continued public display of a loving romance.

He explained that although they had continued working together after the breakup, they had agreed to keep it private to protect their brand.

“We worked together last year while not being in a romantic relationship until February this year when we officially decided to part ways,” Trevor revealed.

On February 19, after confirming the end of their relationship, Trevor announced that he had officially fired Eve Mungai, taking full control of their joint social media platforms.

He also made it clear that Eve would no longer receive her usual share of the income generated by their now separate channels.

Along with the announcement, Trevor posted a cryptic message, which many assumed was directed at his former partner.

“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago,” he wrote.

Since then, the ex-couple has been engaged in a war of words online, exchanging barbs directed at each other.

YY and Marya Okoth

YY and Marya Okoth ended their long-term relationship, which had an example of a picture-perfect love story.

Marya took to Instagram on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to announce the breakup, attributing it to “unavoidable circumstances” and requesting privacy from their fans.

“Hello and good morning. We are saddened to let you know that Marya Okoth and YY Comedian will no longer be together due to unavoidable circumstances. Thank you for your love and support through our union. We expect individual privacy from each one of you,” she wrote.

The couple, who have a 3-year-old daughter, had been together for nearly four years. Marya gained fame in 2023 after starring in the viral Kenyan series A Nurse Toto, produced by comedian Eddie Butita.

Speaking on Milele FM with Ankali Ray, YY clarified that while he and Marya were not legally married, their relationship was more than just a casual living arrangement. He emphasized that the bond they shared was built on love, respect, and commitment, even if it wasn’t formalized by paperwork.

“Let me put that straight and maintain some respect. In as much as we didn’t get married legally, it’s just the documents that we didn’t have. We treated each other as husband and wife. Papers are just a formality,” he said.

YY further explained that their relationship was not a fleeting one.

“I don’t want people going around disrespecting what Marya and I had saying it was a come-we-stay marriage. No, it was not,” he added.

Just two months after the breakup, YY introduced a new partner to the public. When asked if he truly loved his new girlfriend, YY responded that no one can be with someone they don’t love.

“Everyone wants to be happy every day. Huwezi kuwa na mtu ambaye humpendi. I think about things before I do them,” he said.

YY also shared that he had fully healed from his previous relationship and was ready to move on. He emphasized that what mattered was not the speed of his new relationship, but his happiness and the support he now had at home.

“It does not matter how fast or how long, what matters is how soon do you accept and move on. I work well when I know I have a home to run to. Men don’t want much from women, we just need moral support,” he explained.

When asked about the reasons for his breakup with Marya, YY kept things private, denying rumours of infidelity.

“None of that happened, and I honestly do not wish to talk about it,” he stated.

He made it clear that he wanted to show respect for Marya, especially given their shared responsibilities as parents.

“She is the mother of my child, and I’m the father of her child. Nobody is perfect, and there are things that we can’t just air in public. What happened happened, and I have moved on,” YY said.

Thee Pluto and Felicity

Content creator Thee Pluto and his long-time partner, Felicity Shiru called it quits after three years of dating.

“We’ve decided to go on our separate ways and end our 3 years relationship. Thank you for the continued support from family, friends, and fans. Let’s not speculate anything or spread lies about the situation,” the statement read in part.

Adding;

“We will co-parent peacefully to ensure the life of our lovely daughter is not affected. Give us some space during this hard time. Thank you.”

“Sometimes marriage works by God`s grace and sometimes it does not work but all in all God is still on the throne,” Size 8 shared in a post on her Insta stories.

Adding;

“I’ve been married for 11 years and now I start the journey of singlehood. But God is still on the throne, I worship you Yahweh.”

However, the two have not addressed the nature of their relationship since then.

Kagwe Mungai and Sharon

Kenyan musician Kagwe Mungai and content creator Sharon Mwangi announced the end of their relationship in June 2024 after being together for almost two years.

The couple shared their message with their followers, expressing gratitude for their support.

“You’ve been a part of our journey, and for that, we’re incredibly grateful. We want to be transparent with you all even though sharing this publicly feels a little cringe. We know how easily facts can be misconstrued, so know that anything you hear or read elsewhere is likely fiction or assumptions,” they said in a joint statement.

They explained that their decision to separate was mutual and made with respect and love.

“The truth is, we’ve decided to lovingly separate as a couple. Our journey together has been extraordinary, filled with deep love and affection. The love we have for each other remains, but it’s taking a beautiful new shape, a chance for each of us to blossom on our paths,” they wrote.

Adding;

“There’s no negativity here. Think of it as two best friends recognizing it’s time for individual space to pursue our most fulfilling lives.”

Sharon and Kagwe went public with their relationship in May 2023 after keeping it under wraps for almost a year.
