Yvonne Mugure says blocking rude followers helped her rediscover joy

By , March 17, 2026

Content creator Yvonne Mugure has opened up about her decision to block rude followers, saying the move helped her find joy again on social media.

She explained that her main goal this year was to build a community of like-minded people. Mugure noted that things were not always like this. She shared that when she was going viral often, she was attracting the wrong audience.

“My goal this year was to have my supporters on socials to be like-minded,” she said on Instagram on Monday, March 16, 2026.

“I realised when I was going viral all the time, I was creating a community of people who were completely unlike me,” she said.

She added that this created a gap between her and her followers.

“So when I would show other sides of myself, there would be a disconnect,” she explained.

Mugure explains social media reset

The content creator said she made a bold decision to reset her online space. She described it as a full cleanse that involved losing thousands of followers.

“This year, I decided to do a complete cleanse. I lost over 5,000 followers on most platforms,” she said.

Mugure also took action against negativity by removing people she felt were harmful.

“Blocked a whole bunch of rude people (which I never mind doing),” she added.

After making these changes, she shifted how she creates content. She said she now focuses more on being real and connecting deeply.

“I started to show who I really am. I’ve done fewer vlogs of my life and more talking to you,” she said.

She also reflected on her original purpose for joining social media.

“I had to remember why I started posting on socials in the first place. It was to connect and share experiences,” she explained.

Mugure said the results have been positive despite the initial drop in numbers and added that her content now reflects her true self

“Overall, gained a new group of supporters more than the 5k I lost,” she adds, “Now making content that’s more authentic me.”

The creator said she no longer focuses on going viral or being featured online.

“I don’t care about going viral or being in blogs,” she said.
