Wilson Muchemi calls out skit comedians over low-effort jokes

By , December 16, 2025

Content creator Wilson Muchemi has criticised the local comedy scene for relying on repetitive, low-effort humour.

In his Instagram Stories on Monday, December 15, 2025, Muchemi expressed frustration with skit-making comedians who, he says, focus on everyday crowd-pleaser jokes that require little creativity or thought.

“I look at the Kenyan comedy scene and tbh shit ain’t funny. People are out here cracking everyday crowd-pleaser jokes. I’d love to call them low IQ jokes—you need not even use an inch of your brain to understand them because the jokes are overused and bare,” he wrote.

Muchemi directed his critique specifically at skit comedians, emphasising that audience reactions, such as cheers or boos, do not influence his assessment.

“Your boos mean nothing to me. I’ve already seen what you cheer for,” he added.

This comes a few months after Flaqo, born Erastus Otieno, opened up about his viral skit that sparked backlash.

Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday night, August 11, 2025, Flaqo explained that the idea for the skit was inspired by a viral meme about forex trading widely shared and joked about on social media.

He said his intention was purely comic and not to target or offend anyone.

Additionally, the content creator clarified that during the production of the skit, he did not target any specific trader, emphasising that it was intended as a general skit with no ill intentions.

He added that after the clip went viral, he was shocked to discover the coincidence between the character he created innocently in his video and real traders, as highlighted in the comment section.

“It is a meme; everyone talks about it and I did not mean to target anybody. The guy removing the shorts was called Ken. Then, nikaona kwa comment section nikasema this coincidence is too much, but I did not target anybody; I cannot do that to anybody,” he explained.

Adding, “Mimi nikitoa content, huwa siyo ya ugomvi it is just out of a pure heart, just making fun of the situation.”
