Teach a lesson or stick to Christianity? Jackie Matubia unsure after sending Ksh7k to wrong number
By Valerian Khakayi, February 9, 2026Award-winning actress Jackie Matubia has opened up about a painful experience after accidentally sending Ksh7,000 to the wrong number through her bank, leaving her torn between seeking justice and choosing forgiveness as a Christian.
In a video shared on her official Instagram account on Monday, February 9, 2026, Matubia revealed that she woke up in a good mood, only to realise that she had mistakenly sent money to the wrong recipient the previous night at 10:54 pm.
She says she realised after the person she intended to send the money to claimed she had not received it. That is when Jackie checked again and discovered she had confused the last digit of the phone number.
“I woke up in such a good mood, and then I discovered I have sent money to the wrong number through my bank, and I sent that money yesterday at 10:54 pm. Of course, I knew the bank would not help me, and I thought she was a good person,” Matubia revealed.
“The person to whom I was sending the money said she had not gotten the money. I decided to send the message, and that’s when I realised I had confused the last digit.”

Wrong number
The actress added that she believed the recipient was a genuine person.
“I do not know why I had faith in this person. I sent money after seeing her three names displayed. I told myself that she seemed to be a good girl,” she added.
She called the unintended recipient, who picked up the call once and later hung up. When Jackie tried calling again, she discovered the phone had been switched off.
A call to the bank only made things worse after she was informed that all the money had already been withdrawn.
“I called her; she picked up and later hung up. I called again, only to find out she has switched off her phone . I called the bank, and I was informed that the money had been used – all of it,” Matubia added.

“Sijui mbona na feel kama nataka kumfundisha adabu. These days, people are being arrested and jailed for refusing to refund the money.”
The actress admitted that the situation deeply hurt her, saying the loss was painful, especially in the current tough economic times.
“Inaauma aki, Naskia tu kumfundisha adabu juu 7k ni mingi. Niambieni,” she disclosed.
“Huyo pesa ni 7k; hata akiniambia nimtumie 2k na anitumie the rest, ni sawa, but kuzima simu.“
Unsure of action to take
Jackie further questioned whether she should report the matter to the police, noting that many people have recently been arrested for refusing to refund money sent to them by mistake.
However, the incident has left her conflicted in her faith.
“Honestly, am I going to be bad if I decide to teach that person a lesson? From the bottom of my heart, I want to go to the police station. I want the police to follow up ashikwe nasikia vibaya sana because I had hopes in this person,” Matubia stated.
“Pia najiuliza, as a Christian, what am I supposed to do? Teach her a lesson or forgive her, but 7k na hii economy. As a born-again Christian, nafaa kufanya nini juu weeh nikugumu for real. Inauma juu sijawai ibia mtu mbona afanye hivyo.”
