Tatiana Karanja calls out bias, says fathers are praised more for doing parenting duties

Lifestyle influencer Tatiana Karanja has called out bias in parenting, saying fathers are often praised for doing the same duties that mothers are criticised for.

She spoke during an interview with Adelle Onyango on Friday, May 1, 2026, where she addressed the pressure placed on women raising children. She explained that the reactions she sees do not match the reality of parenting.

She said she does not understand why people who stay to care for children are judged. According to her, the criticism is often directed at women even when they are doing their best. She added that the focus should not be on blaming one person.

“I do not understand how people are getting shamed for being the one who stayed to take care of the kids,” Tatiana Karanja said.

She further explained that she questions why the criticism is directed at her. She said she feels targeted when others in similar situations are not addressed. She added that the situation raises concerns about fairness.

“Like, why am I the branch of your …you know.. messaging. Why re you not messaging other people?” she said.

Double standards in parenting roles

Tatiana Karanja said there is a clear difference in how society treats mothers and fathers. She explained that men are often praised for actions that women are expected to do without recognition. She added that this creates an unfair balance.

“Meanwhile, like the dad, if they were raising the kids you would hear of, what a great dad, you are an amazing person,” Tatiana Karanja said.

She pointed out that both parents can be doing the same work but receive different reactions. She explained that this difference is not based on effort but perception. She added that it needs to be addressed.

“Look at this, Dad. Wait, we are doing the same thing, though,” she said.

During the same interview, Adelle Onyango also shared her thoughts on the issue. She explained that society often criticises women regardless of their choices. She added that this pressure can affect how women live their lives.

“I know that society gets off from shaming women,” Adelle Onyango said.

She went on to explain that women are judged no matter what decision they make. She said that even choosing not to raise a child does not remove the criticism. She added that people should focus on living their own lives.
