Tanzanian singer Dulla Makabila reveals he practises witchcraft, shares how he started
Award-winning Tanzanian Singeli musician and songwriter Dulla Makabila has opened up about the events he claims led him to begin practising witchcraft.
Speaking during an interview with a local Kenyan radio station on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the singer said he initially did not believe in witchcraft and reacted with the same disbelief many people express when the subject is mentioned.
However, his perspective changed after a series of frustrating incidents began affecting his career.
“This thing called witchcraft exists. Yes, it does, and we practise it. For example, I am one of the artistes who practises witchcraft. To start, we usually lay white cloths on the floor. At first, I never believed in it at all. I was like everyone else who reacts with shock when they hear about witchcraft,” he shared.

Dulla explained that at the time, he had already gained fame when he travelled back to his rural home. While there, locals asked him for financial support, which he provided before returning to the city.
According to the singer, things began to take a different turn shortly after. He recalled that a promoter who had earlier booked him for a performance later informed him that the show had been reassigned to another artiste.
He said he was told that everything had already been changed, including posters and advertisements, leaving him shocked.
“There was a day I went back to the village where I was born, and by then I had already become a star. People there asked me not to leave them like that and requested some money, so I gave them and left. When I got back home, someone who was supposed to bring me money for a show came and told me things were out of hand. People did not want me to perform and had insisted on another artiste. Everything had already been changed, even posters and advertisements,” Dulla shared.
He added that a similar situation happened again, raising suspicion and concern over what could be happening behind the scenes.
“I was shocked. It happened again a second time,” he added.
Dulla revealed that his then-partner, who had some knowledge about witchcraft, advised him to seek help. He said they travelled together to consult a traditional practitioner, where a series of rituals were performed.
He recounted that the ritual involved the use of coconuts, among other items, explaining that the outcome of the process was believed to indicate whether things would improve or not. He claimed that initially, the coconuts did not split as expected, but after further intervention, the ritual was completed.
“The lady I was dating at that time knew a bit about witchcraft, so she told me to get into the car. We went to a witchdoctor, and he did his rituals. He took coconuts, drew things with them, and performed several rituals. The main one was cracking coconuts, if they split apart, it meant your life would be okay, but if they didn’t, things would not be okay. At first, the coconuts refused to split many times, and a child had to be called to break them,” he narrated.

According to Dulla, shortly after the session, he noticed a sudden change when the same promoter who had previously turned him down began reaching out to him again.
He said that experience convinced him to believe in witchcraft, adding that he later made the decision to fully embrace it.
The singer claimed that he now operates within a circle of individuals who practise similar beliefs.
“After that, the same person who had turned me down for shows called me immediately, and I found over five missed calls from him. From that time, I believed in witchcraft and I joined officially. Right now, I have my circle of witches,” Dulla said.
