Sean MMG: The dancer who conquered Kenya’s arbantone scene
By William Muthama, March 19, 2026Sean MMG, born Sean Mwaniki, has become one of Kenya’s most dynamic figures in music and content creation, combining dance, rhythm, and viral energy into a unique brand.
Hailing from Nairobi’s Rongai area, the 23-year-old’s journey from local performer to chart-topping Arbantone artiste is a story of passion, persistence, and creativity.
Growing up in Rongai, Sean showed an early love for performance. Childhood videos with his sister reveal a natural rhythm and playful energy that would later define his style.
Breakthrough in dance
His breakthrough in dance came when he joined Dance 98, a renowned academy founded by dancer Tileh Pacbro.
As part of the Pacbro Squad, Sean trained rigorously as a performer, choreographer, and mentor, appearing in tutorials like “How to ODI DANCE Like a Pro” and participating in numerous challenges.
His time at Dance 98 also opened doors to feature in music videos for artists such as Lil Maina (“Kishash”), Cartoon Comedian (“Kamkora”), and Exray (“Sijanona”).
Dancing was more than a passion; it was the means to fund his early music ambitions. “Dancing gave me the money to shoot my first video. I don’t want to use my parents’ money.”Sean said in an interview

Before venturing into music, Sean had already built a loyal following on TikTok and Instagram through his viral reels, energetic performances, and charismatic presence.
His official music debut came in 2023 with “Mi Amor” featuring Tila, followed by tracks like “Maji,” “Shera,” and “Cocolito.”
Early critics questioned his shift from dance to music, but Sean proved them wrong by fusing choreography with his tracks, creating a signature sound that resonated with fans.
The ‘Magi Magi’ phenomenon
The viral explosion arrived with the iconic “Magi Magi” catchphrase, born from YouTuber commentator 254’s playful mispronunciation.
The phrase quickly became a fan favourite, inspiring dance challenges and energising party anthems.
