Rish Kamunge: We are not doing cosmetic surgeries to woo men

TikToker and content creator Rish Kamunge has urged people to understand that women undertake cosmetic surgeries for their own confidence and self-investment rather than to please men.

Speaking in a TikTok video on Friday, December 5, 2025, Kamunge addressed widespread debates on social media regarding procedures such as Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL), liposuction, breast reductions, and other forms of plastic surgery.

She highlighted that the assumption that women pursue these procedures solely to attract men is outdated and warned those perpetuating the assumption to stop.

“We are not doing BBLs, liposuction, or any other cosmetic surgeries to please men. Those days when women felt the need to change themselves for men are long gone. I have seen people online claiming that these procedures are done to make men happy or attract better partners, but that is not the case,” Kamunge said.

Kamunge emphasised that personal care and cosmetic enhancement are acts of self-investment.

She noted that women do not eat, apply makeup, or style their hair for men, and cosmetic surgeries should be viewed in the same context.

The decision to undergo procedures like BBLs or liposuction, Kamunge said, is motivated by a desire to feel confident and improve one’s body according to personal standards, rather than to satisfy societal or male expectations.

“Everything we do, even eating, is an investment in our own bodies. We don’t eat, wear makeup, or style our hair for men. I, for example, deserve to have a breast reduction or liposuction if the gym or other methods don’t work for me. Cosmetic procedures are done for ourselves to boost our confidence. Just as someone with misaligned teeth may get braces or grills, we have the right to take care of our bodies as we see fit,” she said.

She also addressed misconceptions regarding women who pursue these procedures despite having financial means.

Kamunge clarified that even women with financial stability choose surgeries to boost their self-esteem.

“Some people argue that women who undergo these surgeries don’t have cars or wealth, but even women with means have every right to improve their bodies. I, for example, deserve to have a breast reduction or liposuction if the gym or other methods don’t work for me,” she said.

She highlighted that certain body changes cannot always be achieved through exercise or diet alone, and procedures such as breast reduction or liposuction may be necessary for physical and emotional comfort.

In addition, Kamunge defended fellow content creator Lydiah Wanjiru, who had been criticised for undergoing a BBL procedure. She explained that Wanjiru’s choice was justified, noting that women should have the freedom to make decisions about their bodies without facing public judgement.

“People should stop assuming that every woman does everything for men. Women have the right to make choices about their bodies for their own well-being. I know some are criticising Lydiah Wanjiru for her BBL, but she deserved it. Women should be allowed to make decisions that help them feel confident and empowered. Everything we do for our bodies is an investment in ourselves,” she added.
