Presenter Kai recounts how arriving for a meeting on a motorbike cost him a lucrative deal
Digital influencer Presenter Kai has emphasised the importance of branding, revealing how he lost a mouth-watering deal after arriving for a meeting on a motorbike.
Kai revealed that back in 2022, when he was still working to carve a niche for himself in the digital space, he was invited to a meeting to negotiate a deal.

“Back in 2022, I was called for a job in Nairobi ya influencer, si nikatoka Nakuru hadi Nairobi na ma3 then kufika tao nikachukua piki hadi kwa office,” he narrated.
Requesting Ksh100K monthly
During the negotiation, Kai requested a pay of Ksh100,000 per month and was told to wait for further communication, which did not come.
“Kwa meza ya ku negotiate nikaulizwa nataka nilipwe pesa ngapi, nikasema 100k per month. After hapo nikaambiwa nitaitwa but sikuwaiitwa tena (I requested Ksh100,000 at the negotiation table and was told that I would be contacted. After that, they never reached out),” he added.
Four years later, he met one of the officials who confirmed to him that he was not picked for the gig because he was seen arriving on a motorbike.
His arrival and how he dressed for the meeting alone convinced the officials that he was not worth the Ksh100,000 he requested.
“4 years later one of the officials tumepatana akanikumbusha the reason why sikupewa hiyo job ni ju waliniona nikiingia na pikipiki wakajua tu basi hata hiyo kazi sitaezana nayo na pia am not worthy hiyo 100k nimeitisha ju ya pia nguo nilikuwa nimevaa ziliniangusha bei,” he stated.
Kai shares his lessons
Reflecting on his experience, the influencer urged influencers to put emphasis on their branding, noting that failing to do so could cost them dearly.
“Mnaojiita influencers, branding ni ya maana sana kwa kazi zenu (Influencers, please branding is very important in your work),” he added.

His account sparked conversation with netizens, also giving their take.
Several noted that dressing the part and arriving in style alone may not get the deal if one lacks the intellectual capacity required for such undertakings.
