‘Not everyone is meant to be a parent’ – Mwalimu Rachel backs child-free choice
By Valerian Khakayi, April 16, 2026Radio presenter Mwalimu Rachel has shared her views on parenting and the choice to remain child-free.
In a video shared on her official Instagram account on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Mwalimu said not everyone is meant to be a parent, adding that she fully supports women who choose not to have children.
“Not everyone is meant to be a parent, and that is why I stand with my girlies who choose to be childless,” Mwalimu said.
She also reflected on modern parenting, suggesting that many children today are unplanned, often referred to as “oops babies,” though still loved by their families.
“Many of the kids that we have now, let’s be honest, are oops babies, as we like to call them, but we love them, but if we knew then what we know now, the knowledge we have acquired over time”, she said, adding that if people had better understanding earlier in life, some might have made different choices.

She further noted that parenthood is a heavy responsibility that requires emotional and mental readiness.
“Maybe we are not meant to be parents, some of us, because we have got issues that we still need to resolve before we take on this very heavy responsibility,” Mwalimu noted.
For those already in motherhood, she encouraged seeking help and healing.
Addressing women who are certain they do not want children, she offered support and advice on self-awareness and healing.

“For those of us who are already moms, let’s get to therapy and take a day at a time but to my girlies who deep down still believe they do not want to have kids I stand with you and my advice to you to do is to work on your inner child and healing that child,” she added.
She warned that unresolved trauma can affect parenting and future generations.
“You know for a fact that you are not equipped emotionally and mentally to be a mother; the last thing the world wants right now is more adults that are dealing with their childhood trauma and hurt people hurt people,” Mwalimu stated.
