‘No one ever plans to be a waiting womb’ – Kambua reflects on her journey of loss and hope
By Valerian Khakayi, February 26, 2026Celebrated gospel musician Kambua has opened up about the emotional highs and lows of her journey toward motherhood, sharing how waiting and loss shaped her path.
On her official Instagram account, Kambua reflected on the pain of waiting and heartbreak, recalling a time in her life when she felt lost, confused, and overwhelmed.
“Some years back, I found myself lost…confused…overwhelmed. Lost in the pain of waiting, broken by the pain of loss,” Kambua opened up.
“You see, no one ever plans to be a waiting womb; many of us anticipate the waiting room, but we never have an inkling of how long we will be there.”
The musician, who has been open about motherhood, revealed that her journey took a transformative turn when she discovered Waiting Wombs Trust, a community of women who have walked similar paths toward motherhood.
Kambua says she found support, understanding, and solidarity among women who know how joy and grief can coexist in the process of trying to conceive.

“Then by God’s grace I found a community of women at @waitingwombstrust . Women who saw me and understood my pain deeply. A community of women who have walked painful paths. Women who understand the intricacies of how joy and grief can coexist. I found a family,” she revealed.
“This year, Waiting Wombs has a conference- The Safe Space. If you, or someone in your life is walking this painfully unfamiliar journey of waiting, please register and come. We will be there to encourage one another, to pray together, and remind each other that you never walk alone.”
Through her heartfelt reflections, Kambua highlights the challenges, resilience, and hope that define the journey to motherhood, emphasising the importance of community and shared support for women facing similar struggles.
Motherhood journey
Kambua’s motherhood journey not only serves as a testimony but also as encouragement to many.
The gospel singer and her pastor husband, Jackson Mathu, welcomed their first child on August 10, 2019, after seven years of childlessness in their marriage.
In 2023, Kambua shared her heartbreaking story of losing two children.
While Kambua is widely known as the mother of three children, including Nathaniel and Natalie, and her late son Malachi, she revealed for the first time that she is, in fact, a mother of four.

“Most of you know that I have three children, Nathaniel, Malachi in heaven, and Natalie with me. But the truth is, I actually have four children. This is something I have never shared with any of you before, but I think it is time to bring you into my world and tell you about two babies that I have in heaven and two that I get to take care of,” she bravely shared.
In 2019, Kambua gave birth to her firstborn, and months later, she announced she was pregnant with her secondborn and suffered a miscarriage.
Later in 2021, she shared the unfortunate news of the passing of her now third child, a newborn son named Malachi Manundu Muthiga Mathu.
In an Instagram post, she noted that the baby boy had complications, and efforts by the medics to save his life were futile.
In November 2022, the gospel singer announced that she was expecting her fourth child.
