Award-winning journalist and media personality Nick Ndeda came out guns blazing on Monday, January 19, 2026, and expressed his frustrations after his house was broken into for a second time.

Through his Instagram page, the fed-up Ndeda blamed his landlord, describing him as nonchalant, and accused the apartment’s security of negligence.

He described the security’s cluelessness as being worse than the fact that this is the second time the apartment has been broken into.

“The only thing worse than having your apartment broken into is having it broken into again. With twice as clueless security and a nonchalant ‘landlord’ coached on avoiding accountability. Ngori sana,” Ndeda posted.

News about the first break-in was not widely publicised, as there is little to no information about it available in the public domain. However, Ndeda’s latest revelation has sparked conversations online, with many Kenyans sympathising with his ordeal and questioning the effectiveness of security measures in residential apartments.

Ndeda did not disclose what items were stolen during the break-in, but he hinted that the emotional toll of feeling unsafe in one’s own home was far more damaging. He emphasised that repeated incidents reflect systemic failures rather than isolated mistakes, noting that security personnel appeared ill-prepared to handle emergencies or provide clear explanations.

The incident also reignited debate around accountability in the real estate sector, with critics arguing that landlords often prioritise profits over tenant welfare. Security lapses, broken surveillance systems, and poorly trained guards were highlighted as recurring issues that leave residents vulnerable.

As a respected journalist, Ndeda’s public outcry has amplified the issue beyond a personal grievance, turning it into a broader discussion on urban safety and tenant rights. Many believe his platform could pressure property managers and authorities to enforce stricter security standards.

By the time of publication, neither the landlord nor the apartment’s management had issued a public response. Ndeda has not confirmed whether he plans to pursue legal action, but his message was clear: silence and indifference are no longer acceptable.

The incident serves as a stark reminder that security is not a luxury but a basic necessity, and that repeated negligence can have serious consequences. For Ndeda, the hope is that speaking out will not only bring him justice, but also help prevent others from experiencing the same ordeal.
