Muigai wa Njoroge’s 1st wife Njeri’s mother laid to rest in emotional burial
By Steve Ireri, December 29, 2025The mother of Kikuyu gospel singer Muigai wa Njoroge’s first wife, Njeri, Joyce Waihego, has been laid to rest in an emotional burial ceremony that brought together family members and close friends in mourning.
Joyce Waihego, who was born on July 18, 1938, passed away on December 20, 2025, and was laid to rest in a solemn ceremony marked by grief and reflection.
The burial was a deeply emotional moment for the family as they came to terms with the loss of their matriarch.
Njeri shared photos from the burial, giving followers a glimpse of the sombre atmosphere that surrounded the day.
In the images, she appeared visibly heartbroken as she posed alongside her sisters, dressed in matching burial attire.
While sharing the burial update, Njeri explained that the family laid their mother to rest with heavy hearts, acknowledging the pain of losing her. Despite the grief, she noted that the family had chosen to accept God’s will and find comfort in their faith.
“We laid our mam to rest yesterday, though with heavy hearts we accept the will of God,” she wrote.

She expressed gratitude to God for the long life He granted their mother, and for the years they were blessed to have her.
“We also thank Him for the years He gave us our dear mam, all the glory to Him,” she added.
She also took time to appreciate everyone who stood with the family during the difficult period, acknowledging the emotional, moral, and spiritual support they received.
Njeri noted that the love, prayers, and encouragement from friends, relatives, and well-wishers were deeply appreciated as the family navigated the painful moment.
“Thanks to everyone who stood with us during these difficult moments. Your love and support are much appreciated. God bless you,” she added.

Painful Christmas season
The burial came during a particularly emotional period, coinciding with the Christmas season.
On December 24, 2025, Christmas Eve, Njeri shared that Christmas had turned into a very sad time for her and her family.
She explained that the joy usually associated with the season was overshadowed by grief following the loss of their mother, and she used the moment to honour her memory.
“This Christmas has turned out to be very sad for my family and me. Rest well, mama ,” she wrote.
The following day, Njeri shared another emotional reflection, explaining that the grief and sadness she was experiencing were so overwhelming that they made it difficult for her to remember what happiness feels like.
“Have you ever been in so much grief and sadness that you even forget how it feels to be happy?” she wrote at the time.
