Mugithi legend Mike Rua buries son in emotional ceremony
By Charles Ouma, March 20, 2026Renowned Mugithi singer Mike Rua has buried his late son, Fredrick Muiruri, in an emotional ceremony in Gatundu.
Flanked by friends, relatives, fans and well-wishers, the singer bade farewell to his son, whose remains are set to be interred in Igegania on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Glowing tributes flowed freely as mourners remembered the deceased’s warm personality and discipline that defined his life.

Former Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was among those who attended the sombre event.
Rua announced the sad news in an emotional post shared on Facebook on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The singer and one-man guitarist described the day of his son’s passing as his darkest and wished for Muiruri to find eternal rest.
“My darkest days. Rest in peace, my son, Muiruri. God, please give us the strength. Fly in peace, my son Muiruri,” Mike wrote.
Vision and Muiruri’s request
Opening up on what turned out to be some of the final interactions with his son, the singer shared that Muiruri requested him to pay a visit to the studio where his son was based.
“My son’s name is Fredrick Muiruri. For those who know my home in Kasarani, I have a studio there, and my son sometimes is there. We had spoken on the phone, and he had asked me to go to the studio on Sunday. On that day, I had been seeing visions as if something was going to happen,” he stated.
“Because of that, I made an effort and went there at around 11 p.m. When I arrived, I called him, but he did not pick up, so I assumed it was not something urgent. I then went to an event that was being hosted by Wanjiru wa Waya,” Mike said.
Learning of son’s death
He learnt of the sad news the next day, with multiple people reaching out to him.

“The following morning, I called him again, but he still did not pick up. Later, at around 1 p.m. on Monday, I started receiving many phone calls, and I assumed they were just normal calls. But when we were with Gathoni and later parted ways, she got the news and told me that my son had died,” Mike shared.
