Review: Why did I get married again? – Old marriages, new problems, and a wedding full of secrets
By Katemarthason Okudo, September 11, 2026Why Did I Get Married Again? is a 2026 romantic comedy-drama that brings back the couples from the earlier Why Did I Get Married? films. Released on Netflix on September 9, the movie centres on a family wedding that was supposed to bring friends together but instead opens up old problems, hidden relationships, and questions about marriage.
The story begins with Jasmine, the daughter of Angela and Marcus, preparing to marry Wesley, the son of Roselyn. The wedding takes place in Lake Como, Italy, bringing the older friends and their families together after years apart.
What should be a happy reunion quickly becomes complicated as the characters realise that growing older has not necessarily meant leaving their old relationship problems behind.
A wedding brings everyone together
Angela and Marcus have managed to stay married despite the problems that affected their relationship in the earlier films. Their daughter Jasmine is now about to start a marriage of her own, making the wedding an important moment for the family.
Jasmine and Wesley, however, are not entering the marriage without problems.
Before Wesley proposed, he had been unfaithful to Jasmine. She later cheated on him in retaliation and ended up contracting a sexually transmitted infection. The situation becomes a major concern when Sheila and Diane realise that the young couple may be repeating some of the mistakes made by their parents.

The situation also forces the older characters to look at their own pasts and wonder whether they have really taught their children the right lessons about relationships.
New relationships create more tension
The wedding also introduces Roselyn, a successful businesswoman and Wesley’s mother. Her relationship with her son is already strained because of the difficult divorce between Roselyn and Wesley’s father, Harvey.
Things become more complicated when Nick, Roselyn’s younger boyfriend, arrives at the wedding. Nick once tutored Wesley when he was younger, making his relationship with Roselyn uncomfortable for Wesley.
At first, Wesley struggles to accept the relationship, especially because he believes his mother made choices that affected his relationship with his father. As the story progresses, more of the truth about his parents’ marriage comes out.
Meanwhile, the older friends also have their own relationship problems to deal with. Mike arrives with a much younger girlfriend, Regina, who happens to be the former girlfriend of Marcus Jr., creating another uncomfortable situation within the group.
A familiar story with a younger generation
One of the strongest parts of Why Did I Get Married Again? is the way the film connects the problems of the older couples to those of their children.

Jasmine and Wesley’s relationship mirrors some of the mistakes made by Angela and Marcus years earlier. This gives the older characters a chance to see their past behaviour from a different point of view.
The film also gives Sheila a more caring role as she supports her mother, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease, while Troy remains supportive of her.
By the time the wedding reaches its final stages, the characters have confronted several secrets and painful truths. The film ultimately focuses less on having perfect marriages and more on understanding mistakes, forgiveness, and the effect parents can have on their children.
Review
Why Did I Get Married Again? works best as a reunion story for viewers who already know the characters. The comedy helps keep the heavier relationship issues from becoming too serious, while the wedding setting gives the different storylines a common place to meet.
However, the large number of characters and relationship problems can make parts of the film feel crowded. Some situations are also easy to predict, especially for viewers familiar with the earlier films.
