No season 4: Euphoria creator confirms the hit series is finished
Euphoria has officially come to an end after three seasons, with creator Sam Levinson confirming that the HBO drama’s final episode marked the conclusion of the story he set out to tell.
According to a report by The New York Times on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Levinson said the series was always intended to explore addiction and its consequences, making the show’s ending a natural conclusion.
“In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me,” Levinson said.
Tragic story ends
The confirmation follows the dramatic season three finale, which saw the death of Rue Bennett, the character portrayed by Zendaya since the show’s debut in 2019.
Rue died from a fentanyl-laced drug overdose, bringing an emotional close to one of television’s most talked-about series.
Levinson described the ending as tragic but realistic, reflecting the dangers associated with modern drug abuse.
“The Euphoria story is a tragic one in the end, but it’s also the truth,” he said, adding that experimenting with drugs today can have fatal consequences.

The finale also served as a tribute to actor Angus Cloud, who played fan-favourite drug dealer Fezco during the first two seasons. Cloud died in 2023 from a fentanyl-related overdose while the final season was being developed.
“It was a way of honouring Angus and saying a prayer for the future,” Levinson explained.
Award-winning legacy
Over its seven-year run, Euphoria became one of HBO’s biggest and most talked-about dramas. The series helped launch or elevate the careers of Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer.
The show received widespread acclaim and won nine Primetime Emmy Awards. Zendaya made history with two Emmy wins for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and also earned a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Rue Bennett.
In addition, the series received recognition from the Critics’ Choice Awards and was named among the American Film Institute’s Television Programs of the Year.
While its third and final season divided critics, Euphoria remained one of the defining television dramas of the decade.
With Levinson’s confirmation and HBO acknowledging the story’s conclusion, the curtain has officially fallen on one of the most influential teen dramas of recent years.
