‘Minions & Monsters’ review: When minions accidentally become Hollywood legends
Universal Pictures has finally unveiled Minions & Monsters, the latest chapter in the popular Minions franchise, bringing the iconic yellow characters back for another hilarious adventure.
Unveiled on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the animated film takes viewers to 1920s Hollywood, where a new tribe of Minions led by James and Henry sets out in search of a new evil master.
Instead of finding the villain they are looking for, the pair accidentally lands on movie sets and quickly becomes the newest stars in town.
Fame takes over
Life changes almost overnight for the Minions. They enjoy the excitement of Hollywood, attend glamorous parties, live in luxurious mansions and become famous with fans everywhere they go.

But their success doesn’t last long. Their usual mischievous behaviour accidentally unleashes real monsters, turning what began as a dream adventure into a race to save the city. To fix the mess they created, the Minions must join forces with unexpected allies before everything falls apart.
The story keeps moving at a fast pace, making it easy for younger viewers to follow while giving adults plenty of reasons to laugh.
Hollywood comes alive
One of the film’s biggest highlights is its love for old Hollywood. It recreates the look and feel of the 1920s with silent movie sets, grand theatres, glamorous premieres and clever references to classic monster films.

Even if you don’t catch every reference, the colourful animation and visual jokes make every scene entertaining.
Fans of classic cinema will notice small details inspired by Hollywood’s early years, while children can simply enjoy the nonstop fun.
Pierre Coffin once again voices the Minions, joined by a talented cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Allison Janney, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch and Trey Parker.
Running for just 90 minutes, every scene brings fresh laughs, exciting action or another unexpected twist. The animation is bright, detailed and full of energy, especially during the monster scenes, which are both exciting and funny.
While the film doesn’t carry the same emotional weight as the main Despicable Me movies, it succeeds at what it sets out to do: deliver family entertainment that is funny, colourful and easy to enjoy.
Whether you’ve followed the Minions from the beginning or you’re watching them for the first time, Minions & Monsters offers an entertaining adventure that celebrates friendship, teamwork and the magic of the movies.
