Broadway newcomer Maya Boyd to make Marvel debut as Storm in upcoming X-Men movie

Maya Boyd is set to make her screen debut as Storm in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie, marking a major step for the 23-year-old Broadway actress.
Boyd joins a cast that includes Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Inde Navarrette and Adam Driver, with the film scheduled to arrive in May 2028.
Boyd is relatively new to audiences outside the theatre world, having built her career on Broadway over the past three years. Her move from the stage to one of Marvel’s biggest franchises will see her take on Storm, one of the best-known characters in the X-Men universe.
Maya Boyd’s rise on Broadway
Boyd is an American stage actress who studied musical theatre at the University of Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After completing her studies, she moved to New York and began building her career in theatre.
She made her Broadway debut in the revival of Merrily We Roll Along. Boyd later took over the leading role of Juliet in & Juliet, giving her another major opportunity on the Broadway stage.
More recently, she appeared in August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, where she performed alongside Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer. Across three Broadway productions, Boyd has gained stage experience without previously appearing in a film or television production.
Her role as Storm will therefore mark her first screen appearance and introduce her to a much wider audience through Marvel Studios.
Taking on Marvel’s Storm
Storm, whose real name is Ororo Munroe, first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 in 1975. The character was created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum as part of a new X-Men team that helped establish the franchise as one of Marvel’s biggest.
Ororo is the daughter of a Kenyan princess and an American photojournalist. After being orphaned in Cairo, she survived as a child thief before later being recruited by Professor Xavier.
The character is known for her ability to control the weather and has been one of the most powerful members of the X-Men. Storm has also served as a leader of the team and, in the comics, became the queen of Wakanda.
For Boyd, taking on the role means moving from Broadway to a major Marvel production. Her casting gives the young actress the chance to bring the iconic character to a new generation when X-Men reaches cinemas in May 2028.
