Avengers: Doomsday trailer: Inside the story, cast details and major surprises

By , July 20, 2026

Marvel Studios has dropped the official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their first major look at one of the MCU’s biggest upcoming events.

Released on Monday, July 20, 2026, the trailer teases a darker multiverse battle, the return of iconic heroes and the arrival of Marvel’s most dangerous villains, led by Doctor Doom.

The story

At the centre of Avengers: Doomsday is a multiversal crisis that forces heroes from different worlds to unite against a threat unlike anything they have faced before.

The trailer suggests that characters from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four universe and the X-Men timeline will be pulled into the same battle as their realities collide.

The film appears to move away from the traditional superhero formula by focusing on the consequences of a universe-wide conflict.

Themes of sacrifice, leadership and survival are expected to play a major role as heroes are forced to work together despite their differences.

The main threat comes from Victor von Doom, a brilliant and powerful ruler whose ambitions could put multiple realities in danger. Unlike previous villains who simply wanted destruction, Doctor Doom is expected to bring a more strategic and calculated challenge, using intelligence and power to control the multiverse.

Doctor Doom takes the spotlight

One of the biggest surprises surrounding the film is Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel, this time playing Victor von Doom rather than Tony Stark, the character who made him a global superstar.

The casting has created huge discussion among fans because Downey Jr. is closely associated with Iron Man and the emotional foundation of the MCU.

However, Marvel appears to be presenting Doom as a completely separate character, with a darker personality, different motivations and a dangerous vision for the future.

The trailer gives a glimpse of a villain who is not only physically powerful but also a master strategist, positioning Doctor Doom as one of Marvel’s most serious threats.

The massive cast

Avengers: Doomsday features one of the biggest ensembles in MCU history, combining heroes from different corners of Marvel.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, while Chris Evans is expected to make a major return as Steve Rogers. Anthony Mackie continues as Sam Wilson/Captain America.

The Fantastic Four also play a key role, with Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

The cast also includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.

The multiverse storyline expands even further with the involvement of X-Men characters, including appearances connected to legendary figures such as Professor X, Magneto and Cyclops.

Biggest trailer moments

The trailer highlights a more serious version of Thor, who appears to step into a leadership role as heroes prepare for an impossible battle.

The footage also teases emotional reunions and the return of familiar faces, creating excitement among longtime Marvel fans.

Visually, the trailer promises a darker MCU experience, featuring massive battles, collapsing realities and heroes facing difficult choices.
