Music star Bien-Aimé Baraza has unveiled new details about his upcoming solo album, describing it as “the most amazing Kenyan album in history.”

Speaking during an interview on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the former Sauti Sol member said the project represents a major step in redefining Kenyan music by grounding it in local culture, identity, and community sounds.

Bien explained that Kenyan music has been heavily influenced by external styles such as Jamaican and American sounds for years. He said his new project aims to shift that narrative by building a sound rooted directly in Kenya.

“For a long time, the question comes, what does Kenyan music sound like, and we never really have an answer. Because of colonialism, our music is never rooted in our culture. Our music is rooted in Jamaican culture, American culture,”he said

He revealed that he travelled across different parts of the country to gather inspiration from various communities.

Among those he mentioned are the Mũgithi (Central Kenya sound), Ohangla (Luo community), Luhya rhythms including Isukuti influences, Kamba-inspired sounds, and other regional musical traditions.

He said these cultural elements have been blended into modern pop music to create a unified Kenyan sound.

“I drove to all the different communities in Kenya. I have a Mũgithi song, I have an Ohangla song, I have songs from different communities, and I’ve made pop music from that,” he noted.

According to Bien, the album brings together these diverse influences to reflect Kenya’s cultural richness, turning traditional styles into contemporary Afro-pop productions while maintaining their original identity.

He added that the project has been in development for a long time and already includes several songs. Bien said he has been refining the tracklist with his team, carefully selecting material that best represents the vision of a culturally grounded Kenyan album.
