Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has narrated how a chance encounter on the streets of Nairobi turned into a full rescue mission for a young Nigerian man who had fallen into homelessness.

According to him, the man’s journey was marked by broken promises, loss, and eventual survival on the streets after everything around him collapsed.

In a post shared via his Instagram account on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Geoffrey Mosiria said Ekene had originally come to Kenya full of hope, believing he would pursue his education after being assured of support by a sponsor. But things quickly fell apart when the sponsor relocated abroad and failed to fulfil the commitment, leaving him stranded in a foreign country with no financial or emotional backup. What followed was a chain of misfortunes, including the loss of his belongings after a theft incident, which pushed him further into desperation and eventually homelessness.

“USIMDHARUA MTU MCHAFU ALIYE KWENYE STREET. EVEN THE FAMOUS ONE CALLED CHOKORAA DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE!! I would like to share the story of Ekene, a Nigerian national whom I rescued from the streets of Nairobi under very difficult circumstances,” he stated.

He further explained that Ekene’s condition worsened as he struggled to survive in the streets of Nairobi, particularly around Kawangware, where he was later found sleeping outside in a highly vulnerable state. With no support system left and overwhelmed by hardship, he eventually began developing mental health challenges, surviving through begging and relying on whatever little help he could find from strangers.

Kawangware became the area where his situation was most visible, with residents reportedly aware of his struggles as he moved from place to place trying to survive each day without stability or shelter.

“I found him sleeping outside on the streets of Kawangware in a vulnerable and distressing condition. That is when I stepped in and facilitated his rescue. With no support system and overwhelmed by his situation, Ekene developed mental health challenges and ended up living on the streets, struggling to survive and often begging for food. He has since been admitted to Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction, where he is currently undergoing treatment and recovery. I am pleased to report that he is responding well and showing encouraging progress. This case is a reminder of the importance of compassion and standing with those who find themselves in vulnerable situations. Together, we can restore dignity and hope to those in need,” Mosiria stated.

Following the intervention, Ekene was taken to Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction where he is now receiving treatment and support aimed at helping him recover and rebuild his life. Mosiria noted that despite the difficult circumstances that led him there, the young man is now showing signs of improvement and responding positively to care.
