Mosiria pushes for swift justice for man burnt by wife

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has raised concerns over what he describes as a worrying delay in justice, following a case where a man was burned by his wife.
In a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Mosiria questioned why the person of interest has yet to be taken into police custody despite the seriousness of the crime.
The case involves Steve Godia, who was attacked in what has sparked outrage online and renewed conversations around gender-based violence against men.
“I am concerned about the case involving Gladwell Kagai, who is alleged to have burned Steve Godia, and yet she is still not in police custody,” Mosiria said.
He called on the National Police Service to act with urgency and fairness.
“I respectfully call upon the National Police Service, under the leadership of the Inspector General, to urgently intervene and ensure that justice is served. The law must be applied fairly, consistently, and without bias,” he added.

Mosiria went further to draw comparisons with a recent high-profile case involving a woman identified as Claire, who was attacked with acid by her boyfriend. In that incident, police moved swiftly, leading to the suspect’s arrest within a short period, a response that many Kenyans praised as efficient and decisive.
“The same urgency and efficiency that were demonstrated in the case of Claire, where the suspect was swiftly arrested, should equally be applied in this matter involving Gladwell Kagai. Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” Mosiria stated.

Men face GBV
The Claire case had sparked nationwide outrage, with graphic accounts of the attack circulating widely and prompting calls for stricter measures against perpetrators of gender-based violence. Authorities responded quickly, a move that set a benchmark many now expect to be standard, not selective.
Now, Kenyans online are asking a simple question: why should justice move fast in one case and crawl in another?
Social media has since been flooded with reactions, with many users echoing Mosiria’s sentiments and calling for equal treatment under the law. Some have pointed out that while cases involving female victims often receive deserved attention, incidents where men are victims of domestic or gender-based violence tend to receive less urgency and visibility.
Others are using the moment to push for broader awareness, noting that gender-based violence is not limited to one gender.
