Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has intervened to give a homeless man he met at Uhuru Park a fresh start.

Mosiria, who met the man on the verge of despair on Monday, February 23, 2026, stated that life’s challenges had taken a toll on the experienced chef.

The county staff found him in deep thoughts, sitting by himself and struck up a conversation which saw the man share his plight.

After losing his job as a chef, the man embarked on a job search that has so far been unfruitful, with his house locked by the landlord after defaulting on rent, leaving him homeless.

“Today at Uhuru Park, I met this man sitting all by himself, deep in thought. I approached him, and we talked. He shared that life has really been tough; he has been searching for a job for a long time without success. Two months ago, his house was locked, and since then, he has been sleeping on the streets,” Mosiria stated.

Request for fare

Amid the challenges, the man who remained resilient shared with Mosiria that all he needed was fare back to the village to replan and hopefully return to Nairobi.

The head of customer service in Nairobi County honoured the request, noting that making it back to the village would give the man a chance to re-plan and bounce back.

“All he asked for was transport money to go back home to the village, where he at least has a place to stay and regroup. I listened and supported him with the fare so he can go home, plan afresh, and hopefully return to Nairobi or anywhere once an opportunity opens up,” he added.

Reflecting on the encounter, Mosiria revealed that sometimes, an act of kindness goes a long way in helping someone bounce back from the challenges of life.

Supporting the man to get a fresh start

He shared a contact through which the man may be reached, indicating that he is a chef who is ready to work and appealing to anyone who may have a chance to consider him.

“He is a chef and ready to work. If anyone can offer him a job or support, please reach out to me since his phone was stolen. Sometimes a small act of kindness can help someone restart life. Let’s continue looking out for each other, Mosiria added.
