Majembe vs Mbavu Destroyer: Obinna seeks views on possible rematch after Majembe’s win
By Valerian Khakayi, April 5, 2026Following the dramatic knockout victory by Portifas Odipo, better known as Majembe, over Ferdinand Omondi, alias Mbavu Destroyer, at the viral Vurugu Fight Night, the event’s organiser, media personality Steve Thompson Maghana, widely known as Oga Obinna, has now turned to fans with a big question.
Taking to his official social media accounts on Sunday, April 5, 2026, hours after the bout, Obinna took a different approach, choosing not to make a unilateral decision. Instead, he has invited the public to weigh in on the organisation of a potential second fight, possibly dubbed Vurugu 2.
“Rematch, ama a win is a win? vurugu 2?” Obinna asked.
Majembe’s victory
Majembe emerged as the winner of the Vurugu Boxing Challenge after beating his rival, Mbavu Destroyer, in three rounds at Kasarani Indoor Arena, Nairobi, on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Majembe was declared the winner by unanimous decision after scoring more points from the three judges against his much-hyped rival, Mbavu Destroyer.
The bout initially scheduled for ten rounds only lasted for four rounds and was called off after Mbavu Destroyer was unable to carry on after sustaining what appeared to be a blow below the belt.
The fight, which captured widespread attention both online and offline, ended decisively after Majembe delivered a powerful knockout that left Mbavu unable to continue.
Oga Obinna, the Vurugu Match organiser, and Reuben Ndolo, the boxing official, handed over the winner’s belt to the eventual winner.
Majembe on his victory
Majembe, after he was declared the winner of the viral Vurugu Fight Night bout against Mbavu Destroyer, celebrated his victory with gratitude and plenty of energy.
He thanked his supporters, saying that he appreciated his people, his family, and Team Majembe for standing by him every day. He added that the victory was absolute and expressed excitement for what’s next.
“Chimba chimba, kabebe, nashukuru watu wangu, familia yangu na team Majembe siku zombo, kabisa, shamba iletwe, bigup kwa wote,” Majembe said after being declared the winner.
