Majembe opens up on how he will use Ksh1.7M prize after Vurugu victory over Mbavu

Rising boxer Majembe has opened up about how he plans to use the Ksh1.7 million he earned following his victory over Ferdinand Omondi during the Vurugu boxing event.
Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Friday, April 10, 2026, Majembe confirmed that he has already received the full amount in cash but chose not to keep it on hand. Instead, he opted to have the money deposited, explaining that holding large sums of cash can easily lead to poor spending decisions.
He noted that the move is part of a broader plan to manage his earnings responsibly.
“I have already received the money from the fight, but I chose to have it deposited instead of keeping it in cash because it is easy to misuse cash. In total, I earned Ksh1.7 million,” he said.
The boxer further revealed that aside from the cash prize, he is also set to receive a car that had been promised to him after the fight. However, he indicated that the vehicle had not yet been handed over, with expectations that it would be delivered soon.
He also acknowledged that he currently does not have a driving licence but plans to sort that out in due course.
“I was also promised a car, which I expect to receive soon, although I don’t have a driving licence yet and will plan for that,” he added.
Majembe disclosed that his top priority with the money is to improve his mother’s living conditions. He stated that building a decent house for her would be his biggest achievement and the moment he would truly consider himself successful. According to him, uplifting his family remains at the heart of his plans.
“My main goal is to build a good house for my mother, because that is when I will truly feel like a winner,” he said.

At the same time, he made it clear that he prefers to keep his family life private.
He explained that he is not comfortable bringing his parents into the public eye or using them for attention during moments of hype. He added that while he appreciates the role his parents have played in guiding him, he believes it is now his responsibility to use that guidance to better their lives without exposing them unnecessarily.
“I prefer to keep my parents off social media and not use them for attention or sympathy. What matters is that they guided me well, and now it is my responsibility to use that guidance to improve their lives,” he said.
Majembe also noted that he intends to take time to carefully plan how he will use the money, ensuring that every decision contributes to long-term stability.
He emphasised that beyond immediate needs, his goal is to make thoughtful investments that will secure a better future for both himself and his family.
“I will take time to plan properly so that the money benefits my family in the long term,” he added.
