Lynn Ngugi to Sakaja: Fixing drainage isn’t a favour, it’s the job

Media personality Lynn Ngugi has criticised Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja following floods that disrupted parts of the city.
In a strong message, she said leaders must take responsibility for managing the city’s infrastructure.
“Fixing the drainage isn’t a favour, it’s the job,” she said on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
Lynn dismissed arguments that the governor should not be blamed because flooding happens even in developed cities. She criticised the comparison and urged people to look at how other cities prepare for disasters.

“To those saying we shouldn’t blame Sakaja because ‘even Dubai floods,’ stop it. That is such a pathetic approach,” she said.
She pointed out that cities like Dubai have strong systems in place to manage emergencies and protect residents. According to her, preparation and quick response make a major difference during disasters.
“Dubai has 24/7 satellite monitoring, emergency bunkers, and rescue teams that actually show up in minutes,” she said.
Criticism over leadership and preparedness
Lynn questioned the county government’s response to the flooding in Nairobi. She accused the governor of failing to take action even when the risk of floods was clear.
“What do we have? A Governor who is completely missing in action,” she said.
She added that leaders should have prepared the city for the heavy rains.
“You knew this was gonna happen, but as always, you decided it was not your job to care!!” she said.
Lynn insisted that managing drainage systems is not optional but part of the responsibility of leadership.

“Fixing the drainage isn’t a favour, it’s the job,” she repeated. She added that the impact of the floods shows how poor planning affects the entire city. “And I hope we can now see how this incompetence doesn’t just hurt the poor, it’s hitting everyone!!” she said.
“Please rise against this mediocre administration,” she said. She warned that remaining silent allows poor leadership to continue.
“This is exactly what happens when we choose to be silent while people like the dimple chairman are busy ruining the only country we have,” she said.
Her remarks come as heavy rains continue to affect parts of Nairobi.
Videos and images circulating on social media show motorists wading through waterlogged roads and cars partially submerged in floodwaters. The scenes highlight the scale of disruption caused by the rains in different parts of the city.
The flooding also caused massive traffic jams in key areas within the Nairobi Metropolitan. Many residents experienced long delays as evening commutes were disrupted by flooded roads and blocked drainage systems from Friday, March 7, 2026.
This comes as the National Police Service on Saturday, March 7, 2026, the police confirmed twenty-three casualties, with at least twenty-nine people successfully rescued from various locations in Nairobi following the flooding situation.
