Lilian Ng’ang’a raises concerns over teachers using students as social media content

By , May 26, 2026

Former Machakos County First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has raised questions about the growing trend of teachers posting students on social media, sparking conversation around privacy, consent and the fine line between sharing classroom moments and turning children into online content.

In a statement shared through her Instagram stories on Monday, May 25, 2026, Lilian wondered whether parents are fully aware when videos and photos of their children end up online through school or teacher accounts.

“It’s okay to post what you do for work,” Lilian wrote.

“Wondering though.. Are parents okay with teachers posting the students as content? Are parents aware? Is the School aware?” she added.

This comes months after she schooled parents to be mindful of the example they set at home, reminding them that children learn more from what they see than what they are told.

In a message shared on her Instagram page on March 14, 2026, the author and social advocate reflected on the quiet but powerful influence parents have on their children. According to her, the small everyday habits in a household often become the lessons children carry for life.

She noted that children are natural observers.

“Your child will learn the most from observing your routines, listening to your conversations, and so on. You are your child’s greatest teacher. You got this!” Lilian Ng’ang’a stated.

Ng’ang’a’s remarks add to a growing list of issues she has recently spoken about concerning
family life and parenting. Just weeks earlier, she called for maternity leave in Kenya to be extended from three months to six months, saying the current period is too short for new mothers.
