Lil Maina reveals ‘kishash’ song was about depression
Rapper Lil Maina has said that his song ‘Kishash‘ was about depression, explaining that the message behind the track was to encourage people to have fun and take a break from their struggles.
In a podcast on Sunday, March 22, 2026, he said the song was inspired by personal thoughts about dealing with depression and finding ways to cope. He explained that the idea was to help people focus on enjoying life and easing their mental pressure.
“Every time na perform, sasa juu ya ngoma zangu, juzi, Naivasha, msee amenirushia bangi,” Lil Maina said.
He added that his music, including songs like ‘Kishash’ and ‘Kinare’, often connects with people in different ways. He said that because of this, he sometimes faces reactions that he does not fully understand.

He explained that despite how people react to his performances, he does not plan to change his image. He said he remains focused on staying true to his message and his style of music.
“Naweza change my image? No,” Lil Maina said.
Message behind Kishash
He explained that when he was creating ‘kishash’, he was thinking about depression and how people deal with it in their daily lives. He said the song carries a message of trying to overcome those feelings.

“Mimi, when I was making kishash, I was talking about depression. Like how you need to kill your depression,” Lil Maina said.
He added that the idea behind the song was to encourage people to go out, have fun, and find ways to lift their mood. He said this was an important part of the message he wanted to share.
“Like, go have fun. I was just talking about, go have fun, ujibambe. Hiyo ndio the meaning behind it,” Lil Maina said.
He explained that the goal was to help listeners connect with the message and feel better in their own lives. He said the song was meant to be uplifting and simple in its message.
He added that at the time he created the song, he was simply enjoying the process and expressing himself. He said he did not expect the song to be interpreted in many different ways.
