Kikuyu creators rally around Wanjiru Wa Waya following loss of two family members
By Steve Ireri, January 26, 2026A section of Kikuyu public figures has rallied together to support content creator and singer Wanjiru Wa Waya, following the devastating loss of two of her family members within a span of just two days.
While many of them expressed their support online, several others went a step further by travelling to her home on Sunday, January 25, 2026, to personally console her as she continues to grapple with overwhelming grief.
Among those who paid her a physical visit were content creators Kufai and Mbote Njogu, creator Kahihu Eliud, and MC Omondi Ithiru, among several others who stood with her during the difficult moment.
Others who openly showed support to the ‘Side Chick’ hitmaker via online platforms included actor Nyonjoro, who made a Facebook post asking anyone who had Wanjiru’s private number to share it with him so that he could reach out personally.
Tragic incident
According to a report shared by popular Kememe TV host Ngugi wa Karanja, Wanjiru was plunged into mourning after two of her relatives, her aunt Susan Muthoni Githoga and another family member, Pauline Wangui Mwangi, passed away only days apart.
Ngugi revealed that both relatives succumbed after a short battle with cancer, a loss that left Wanjiru and her entire family in profound grief and emotional distress.
“Mbote Njogu, Kufai, Kahihu and other friends went to mourn with the family of Wanjiru wa Waya following the passing of her relatives, Susan Muthoni Githoga and Pauline Wangui Mwangi. It is deeply heartbreaking to lose two family members at the same time due to cancer. May God grant the family strength and comfort during this extremely trying period,” Ngugi wrote on Facebook.
Wanjiru’s appeal
The outpouring of support came just four days after Wanjiru openly shared how the tragic loss had deeply affected her and her family.
In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Wanjiru appealed to her followers who are devoted in prayer to remember her family, explaining that the tragedy was overwhelming and unfamiliar territory for them.
“If you are a fervent prayer warrior, I humbly ask you to pray to God to grant our family peace that surpasses all understanding,” she wrote.
She went on to explain that losing two close family members within such a short period is emotionally draining and extremely difficult to bear, especially for those closest to the departed.
Wanjiru emphasised that all she was seeking was peace of mind and earnestly pleaded with God to hear her cry and extend His comfort to her and her family.
“Losing two family members at the same time is not easy at all. Please, God, grant us peace,” she wrote.
