Kikuyu content creator Wajoy marks first festive season without late mum
By Steve Ireri, December 29, 2025Kikuyu content creator Joy Mathenge, popularly known as Wajoy, has shared a heartfelt reflection as she experiences her first festive season without her late mother.
In a deeply emotional Facebook post on Monday, December 29, 2025, Wajoy revealed the pain she felt during the celebrations, admitting that while she tried to enjoy the season, her heart was heavy with grief.
“Mummy, Christmas will never be the same again. This one I really tried to be happy, to enjoy, but deep down my heart was paining,” she wrote.
Wajoy wrote that the festive period would never be the same again, describing the difficulty of finding happiness amid the loss.
She acknowledged the deep sorrow she continues to feel, expressing hope that, with time, the pain will ease.
“My heart is really hurting; maybe with time, but I am hoping that I will cope with time, mama,” she added.

Untimely passing
In her post, WaJoy recalled that her mother had appeared in one of her skits about two weeks ago and mourned how untimely her death had been.
“Aki, this was 2 weeks ago, Mum. She was a vibe. ‘Anytime I did a video with her,’ she would say. Oh my God, they will see me in this video and the way I look,” she wrote.
She described her mother as a vibrant presence who would always comment on how she looked and worry about being seen in the videos, while Wajoy reassured her that she would appear because she was her mother.
Wajoy expressed that she loved her mother deeply and acknowledged that God had done His will, asking her mother to rest in peace.
“Mum, you know I loved you,I still do, and God has done his will, mum. Rest mum rest,” she added.

She reflected on the joy her mother brought to her content, noting that anytime they filmed together, her mother’s energy and humour made the videos special.
Wajoy highlighted that her mother’s personality had been a key part of the skits, and she appreciated the moments they shared, calling her mother a vibe and emphasising the bond they had both on and off camera.
“I would always tell her that yes, people will see her in my skits because you are my mum. I love this woman, Ngai,” Wajoy wrote.
