Karangu Muraya reflects on heavy grief of losing mother in message to Kiambu Senator

While condoling with Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, who lost his mother on Thursday, March 5, 2026, Muraya stated that the experience is permanent and the pain cannot be expressed in words.
“There is something about losing a mother that is permanent and inexpressible, a wound that only God can heal,” Karangu stated on Facebook on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
He prayed for the family during this time of grief and beyond while also conveying his condolences.

“To my friend and brother Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and your family, May Jehovah comfort you. Poleni sana,” he added.
Karungo’s glowing tribute
Mama Lucia Wangui Thang’wa passed on at the age of 93, with leaders from across the political divide joining the Kiambu Senator in mourning his beloved mother.
Karungo unpacked the raw pain following the demise of his mother in a statement which celebrated her legacy as a successful mother who raised thirteen children with love, sacrifice, and discipline.
“It is well with my soul. Go well, Mum. This afternoon, we have lost our dear mother, Lucia Wangui Thang’wa, also known to many as Nyina wa Martin.
Battling dementia
He revealed that the deceased battled dementia in the latter years of her life, adding that he doubts if she ever got to know that her lastborn son had been elected Senator for Kiambu County.
“For many years, my mother battled dementia. I am not even sure she ever got to know that I was elected the Senator for Kiambu. But every time I saw her, sat with her, or spoke to her, I found the strength to keep going.
He hailed her as the strong matriarch behind the success of her children, adding that the health battles did not change who she was to them.

“She may not have remembered many things in her final years, but to us she remained the strong matriarch who, together with our late father, raised thirteen children with love, sacrifice, and discipline. Rest well, Mum. I remain your 13th,” the senator stated.
