Justina Syokau reveals her ex-partner bought her Ksh300 engagement ring along River Road
By Paulette Mboga, February 3, 2026Gospel singer Justina Syokau has shared how her former partner bought her a Ksh300 engagement ring, surprising everyone around them.
During an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, she said it happened during a weekend outing, and she had no idea it would happen.
“Hiyo weekend alinipeleka out alininunulia ring kule River Road. Sikua najua ni River Road, you know I did not know Nairobi sana,” she explained.
She added that the gesture shocked both her and her friends.
“Pale Dubois alininunulia ring ya mia tatu. Nilirudi nikauliza. Ilikua fake,” Justina said.
Everyone around them could not believe it, saying, “Kila mtu alikua ehhh, you are engaged? Mtu alinimeet Friday, Saturday asha ni engage. Kila mtu alikua shocked,” she added, describing how sudden it all felt.
Justina describes the engagement experience
Justina said she initially thought the whole situation was like a movie.
“Si tunafikiri ako sawa kumbe ni sinema. Na mtu anataka kukuoa hawezi kuonyesha red flag, kila siku ni flag ile ya white,” she explained.
She said her former partner seemed very clever and knew how to read her.
“Venye watu husema soma mtu, utamsoma wapi nayeye anakuonyesha uzuri. This guy was good, he read me, he knew I was just young sijui kitu. Alikua mzuri wa ku calculate movement,” she added.
She also described how the guy was in a hurry to marry her.
“So every time tunakuja tunaenda kwao huko ushago. Alinipeleka kwao nikaona mpaka mama yake. Weekend next tukaenda kwetu ushago,” Justina said.
She recalled that even her grandmother had concerns about her age.
“Shosho yangu alikua anasema huyu mtoto ni mdogo kuolewa. I was not even 20 years old. At that time, I was 19 naenda 20, and I think he was 34 years old. Shosho yangu alikua ansema ni mzito, I wish mngengoja kidogo. Walikua shocked hata wao,” she added.
“Nilikua mdogo, yeye alikua mtu mzima but at that time sikua nafikiria vitu kama hizo. Saa hii ndio naelewa hizi vitu. I have to date somebody, to be taken out. Unaona? Again, nilikua nimekatiwa na watu wa maana sana. Na nilikataa,” Justina recalled.
Justina said the engagement was a mix of excitement, surprise, and youthful naivety.
