What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure that helps individuals or couples conceive a child when natural conception is difficult or not possible. It is one of the most common and effective forms of assisted reproductive technology (ART).

How IVF Works

IVF involves several key steps:

  1. Ovarian Stimulation – A woman takes fertility medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs instead of the single egg normally released each month.
  2. Egg Retrieval – The eggs are collected from the ovaries through a minor surgical procedure.
  3. Fertilization – The eggs are combined with sperm in a laboratory to allow fertilization to occur.
  4. Embryo Development – The fertilized eggs (embryos) are monitored for several days.
  5. Embryo Transfer – One or more healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus in hopes of achieving pregnancy.

If successful, the embryo implants in the uterine lining, leading to pregnancy.
